SAFETY OFFICERS

SPONSOR: Vogel (Dusenberg)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Ways and Means by a vote of 5 to 0.

This bill clarifies that the surviving spouse of a public safety
officer can claim an income tax credit for the real property
taxes paid for each year he or she remains unmarried beginning
with the year the spouse dies.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill changes the current
credit to clarify that the spouse loses the credit if he or she
remarries.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Vogel; and Department of
Revenue.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
